About us.
Next Generation Neurons is the web site for New Jersey Neurons LLC, a company dedicated to producing human neurons for the academic research and pharmaceutical industry. To understand the need for human neurons, we must remember that neurons in our brains and spinal cord do not divide and that our stock of neurons is limited and inherited at birth. Fortunately, human neurons can be manufactured from somatic cells, such as skin cells, by a specific type of genetic engineering termed neural re-reprogramming, or neural induction. These human ‘induced neurons’ are ideal to test the therapeutic potential of compounds in vitro. Induced neurons can also be made autologous for personalized medicine. Finally, we also are interested in new concepts of brain-machine interfaces that are based on neurons bioengineered with nanoparticles or nano-antennas.
